SERVPRO Swiftly Responds to Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey caused disastrous flood damage in Louisiana during late August of 2018. It swept through towns, causing damages to homes of all shapes and sizes. Hurricanes have such intense wind speed that they can severely damage roofs, windows, doors, and even entire houses. However, not only do Hurricanes bring wind, but they can also bring copious amounts of rain, which is responsible for the water damages that can come as a result of the storm.
 
When Hurricane Harvey hit Louisiana, we at SERVPRO of Beverly Hills/ Westwood knew we had to help with the flood damage the storm left behind. With that in mind, we sent several teams of technicians "to Louisiana to help restore [the] flood damage." Our technicians knew that they would be living out of our signature green RV. Our techs knew that going to help with the aftermath of the storm would mean that they'd be away from their homes and families for weeks, however, helping those in need was important to all of us, here at SERVPRO. When we arrived on site, our technicians began to investigate the damages and found many homeowners had piled possessions and sections of their houses outside on the lawn. The storm had pulled doors off of hinges and getting the debris out of the houses was essential to start remediation. Naturally, we at SERVPRO got to work right away because we learned we were not just restoring homes. We "found out we were restoring lives."
 
We separated our technicians into several teams and outfitted them all with advanced equipment designed to handle flood damages. The first task we focused on inside the houses was getting the debris and leftover furniture out. We pulled up moldy carpets, removed water-soaked cabinetry, and threw away anything that was unsalvageable. After demolishing any drywall that was riddled with mold damage, we began to bring in our drying equipment.
 
Our SERVPRO techs set up dehumidifiers, air movers, axel fans, and drying mats to pull moisture from the floors and the surrounding structure of the homes. After we got the spaces to adequate levels of dryness, we made sure to disinfect the area, preventing further mold outbreaks. It was truly an honor and a privilege to help the people who had been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and we were happy to provide relief.
